Novak Djokovic cruises through to the semifinals of the French Open 2019 as he defeats Alexander Zverev in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 in 2 hours and 10 minutes in the quarterfinals.
The two players were meeting for the fifth time in their career with an equal head to head record. However, this was only the second match between them on the clay court with Zverev winning their last match at the 2017 Italian Open finals.
Alexander Zverev is one of the few players to have an equal head-to-head record against Novak Djokovic. He certainly had the upper hand at the clay-court event. However, Zverev’s grand slam record hasn’t been as impressive as ATP tour matches. While Novak Djokovic entered the Roland Garros 2019, winning the last 3 majors and hunting the ‘Nole Slam’ at the French Open 2019. The world no. 1 entered the quarterfinals against the German without dropping a set at the Parisian clay, this year.

The first set was quite an equal one until 4-4 when Zverev broke Djokovic to serve for the set at 5-4. However, Novak Djokovic broke back to make it 5-5 in the following game. The Serb them went onto win the set 7-5 after holding his serve and breaking Zverev’s serve for the second time. Novak Djokovic fought back to win 3 consecutive games to conquer the first set.

Novak Djokovic took the momentum in the second set as he earned an early break in the second game of the set. The world no. 1 playing sensational tennis held his serve in the next and won the 6th consecutive game of the match. Novak Djokovic again won broke the world no. 5 in the 8th game of the second set to claim the set 6-2.
In the third set, Zverev was looking solid, holding his first two service games. However, Novak Djokovic broke him in the 6th game to get a lead of 4-2. The Serb went onto win the set 6-2 quite comfortably after breaking Zverev’s serve at 5-2.
