Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez has been grabbing the headlines. She recently knocked off the two-time champion Naomi Osaka out of the US Open. At the age of 18 years, the youngster surely has a bright future ahead of her. In June this year, she achieved a career-high ranking of 66 in the world.
Not long ago, Leylah Fernandez was praised by Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou. He felt that a player doesn’t necessarily need to be strong or tall in order to achieve success in the spectacular sport. However, he felt one must need to take the ball early in order to dictate the point.

While speaking on this, Patrick stated, “Leylah Fernandez shows that it is not necessary to be tall and strong to hit the hell out of the ball. Combo of easy power and taking the ball early makes wonders.”

In her career so far, she has managed to win a WTA title and a Challenger Trophy. In 2019, she won the French Open juniors title. She made her Grand Slam debut during the Australian Open 2020.
Speaking of her performances in the current season, she began her journey in Melbourne and ended up losing in the opening round. After that, she crashed out in the second round of the French Open to American player Madison Keys.

Moving forward towards the Wimbledon Championships, she made an early exit, losing in the first round to Jeļena Ostapenko. At the moment, she is in the fourth round of the US Open, which is her best performance in a Grand Slam event to date. She even registered her biggest win after knocking out the defending champion.
