Robert Kubica has said that he is not offended by comments made by quadruple world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Ferrari driver Vettel said that while he is happy 34-year-old Kubica is returning to F1 after an eight year recovery, “there are also young drivers who deserve a chance”.

Kubica, whose burgeoning F1 career was interrupted by a 2011 rallying crash, says he is not offended.

“Everyone has their own opinion,” he told Polish radio RMF FM.

“Not everyone has to be happy that I am coming back. Certainly when it comes to other drivers, it’s normal that the competition is big,” Kubica said.

“You also can’t really say that Vettel is a lot younger than me. On the other hand, there are a lot of young drivers who are entering formula one — my teammate (George Russell) for example,” he added.

Vettel has said that he had mixed feelings about Kubica’s appointment to Williams. He said, “On the one hand, it pleases me personally. No one can even imagine how hard it was for him and what he went through.”

Then he said that there were younger drivers who deserved a chance. He had a chance to return in 2018 but lost out to Sergey Sirotkin. So, the Polish driver elected to get his head down and perform to the best of his abilities.

Sure enough, he has finally got his chance to make a sensational return to Formula One. Now the only questions will be, how will he stack up alongside his younger teammate, George Russell?

The Pole is familiar with a few drivers on the F1 grid, having battled a fair number of them. The likes of Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton, Nico Hulkenberg and Romain Grosjean have all raced when Kubica was in his prime. For the rest, like Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo, Charles LeClerc and others, it will be a heck of a learning curve.
