In the midst of all this chaos, 31-year-old Polish star Magda Linette recently revealed her candid opinion about the newly raised Cancun controversy.

The high antics between Iga Świątek and Sabalenka came to a halt. Frustration and disappointment began to reverberate among players who questioned the wisdom of selecting Cancun as the venue.

Linette while talking to WP SportoweFakty surprisingly defended the WTA’s choice despite the catastrophic weather conditions. She expressed her views on the matter, stating: “I don’t have that feeling. I completely disagree that we are not listened to by the WTA authorities. But is everything as we would like it to be?” Linette’s perspective became clearer as she delved into her explanation. She remarked: “I don’t fully understand the complaints of tennis players. Of course, if I were them, I would also be upset by certain events, but we cannot control everything, such as the weather. However, some matters were known long before. There are situations when players are surprised by certain facts, but to know, it was enough to simply read the e-mail”

She went on to emphasize the complexity of selecting venues, highlighting the trade-offs involved. As per her: “There will never be one size fits all. Ostrava? If the finals were held there (Ostrava), then the prize pool, for example, would be smaller. You have to understand that no one there does it on purpose.”

In a tennis world filled with complaints and controversy, Linette’s perspective offers a unique take on the challenges the WTA faces in balancing player preferences. The practical considerations when choosing tournament locations are quite critical. Although Sabalenka’s concerns are very real, Linnete’s argument can’t be ignored.

Linnete’s viewpoint suggests that, while the weather was beyond control. She admitted that some aspects were preventable, and communication plays a pivotal role in such situations.
