The football fields and their quality have always been a point of contention among players. Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jordan Mailata trashed the Super Bowl LVII turf, saying that it was as deplorable as it looked on television. The 25-year-old Australian footballer said that the slippery field at the State Farm Stadium was a topic of discussion for players of both teams.

Players from both the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles were struggling to stay on their toes during the match. The players were changing shoes multiple times to try and cope with the condition of the pitch, but they could not help to show their discontent with the playing field on the biggest day of the NFL.

After a 35-38 loss against the Chiefs, the Bankstown Behemoth did not shy away from letting the reporters know his frustration. As per the source, he said, “It was slick, you couldn’t anchor, you had to get your whole foot on the ground, if you tried to use just your toe, you’d slip right away. You saw the receivers, it was like a waterpark out there and we’re playing on grass.”

It must be embarrassing for the NFL to receive criticisms like these even after spending tons of money on Super Bowl. Even though there were no direct instances of the deplorable playing field harming the quality of the match, the players could be seen struggling in providing their best performances for their respective teams.

$1.6 million dollar worthy field?

Furthermore, the NFL had spent $1.6 million dollars over a span of two years to make sure that the state farm playing field in Arizona would be up to the mark for the Super Bowl. But that did not seem to be the case on game night. Fans questioned whether the NFL were more busy preparing the pitch for Rihanna’s halftime show rather than the actual game itself.

Additionally, damages to the pitch during the halftime show became unavoidable. The stadium crew had to take up an ample amount of time to make sure that the field was ready for the second half. After Rihanna’s halftime show, the stadium crew put in a rigorous amount of work for the second half of the Super Bowl.
