Looks like The San Francisco 49ers might be in a bit of a pickle as shocking news drops hours before the 2023 NFL kick-off. With a mere 4 days left for their epic showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the amount of ongoing conjecture around Nick Bosa’s holdout, the 49ers have backed themselves into a tight corner. To the 49ers’ credit, the front office did offer the defensive lineman a hefty sum, but the two parties still remain at a standoff.
Reportedly, the offer made to Nick Bosa is more than what was offered to T.J. Watt, making Bosa the highest-paid defensive end in the league. But can the 49ers afford the money?

The San Francisco 49ers appear to be facing a financial tough spot. Reports suggest that the Niners have been doling out money to players who either haven’t made the roster cut, playing for another team, or aren’t playing the league altogether. Even though the Niners have a history of bringing cap space into the next season, it seems that due to the dead cap hits, there is not going to be much left post the 2023 season. In fact, the salary cap has increased by $16 million, more than what they spent in the last season. This certainly proves that the salary cap in the NFL is, in fact, real.
The #49ers have a money problem.
In 2024 they are due to pay
Trent Williams $28M.
Deebo Samuel $29M.
Arik Armstead $26M.
Fred Warner $25M.
George Kittle $20M.

As of now, the Niners are reportedly $2.66 million over the NFL cap. Even though teams manipulate numbers so that they can secure contracts, it usually means that the front offices end up paying a huge amount of dead money. But for the Niners, this means there needs to be some financial game plan adjustments before the season kicks off.
These tactical shifts may prove to be challenging for manager John Lynch and his team as Nick Bosa’s mega contract extension looms large while the OTC has the Niners at $1 million over cap.

Training camp no-show: Nick Bosa’s $4 million gamble on greatness
Even though Nick Bosa loves to play for the Niners. He believes he deserves more than what is being offered. It is also reported that it’s not T.J. Watt, but rather how close can he get to matching Aaron Donald’s $31 million. In case the negotiations fall through, the defensive end will still make $17.8 million in the fifth year of his rookie contract. Bosa has yet to make an appearance at the training camp ahead of the team’s clash with the Steelers which is scheduled for September 10, and has amounted to $4 million in the consequent penalties.
The 49ers, on the other hand, have a tough ordeal to deal with even before the season begins. However, the Niners are not the only team to have a dead cap. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the highest dead cap, amounting to an astounding $76.76 million. Will the Niners live to tell the tale or is this the beginning of their downfall?
