Despite solid competition from PlayStation and Xbox, the Nintendo Switch has been a colossal hit ever since its 2017 launch. It has already made almost 80 million sales up till now, and from the looks of it, the console is now getting bigger and better than ever.
As per a Bloomberg report, a new Switch model is currently under works. It will comprise a brand new 7-inch OLED 720p display by Samsung.
The report further suggests that the South Korean tech giant will begin the mass production of these screens in June, with an initial monthly target of almost 1 million units. The assemblers will receive these units by July.

OLED, or Organic Light-Emitting Diode, is the world’s best smartphone display. Furthermore, Super AMOLED displays produced by Samsung are often considered the best OLED displays in the market.
The new Nintendo Switch model will support 4K graphics when paired with TVs
With the advent of the new-gen consoles by Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo naturally looks forward to keeping the Switch relevant. It is worth noting that its gaming system has been heavily reliant on the success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons lately.

From the looks of it, this rumored new Nintendo Switch model will compete with the likes of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. OLED panels consume less battery, have higher contrast, and have a faster response time as compared to liquid-crystal displays. To say the least, this is a huge upgrade from the 6.2-inch and 5.5-inch sized displays that the Nintendo Switch currently offers.

Moreover, the upcoming model will also support 4K ultra-high-definition graphics on TVs. This might aggravate the concerns of game developers regarding the vast difference in resolution between the handheld and TV modes. However, Bloomberg analysts claim that 4K support can significantly increase the demand for the Switch in the 2021 holiday season.
This deal can benefit both Samsung and Nintendo in many ways. Owing to excessive supply, the price of OLED panels has been falling steadily. In times like these, Nintendo can help Samsung in making the best of its production capacities.

On the flip side, the shortage of Silicon and Germanium has adversely affected the supply of display-related components. Regardless, Samsung is a trustworthy supplier of the goods and can easily fulfill any demands put forward by Nintendo.
