The 1990s witnessed a lot as a decade on its own. Especially in conjunction with its significance to the NFL. Broncos finally won their first-ever Super Bowl, NFL expanded to the European shores, and it also saw the birth of one of its foremost players to be. But it also saw one of the most unnoticed rejections which would soon transform into a snowballing career. Before the birth of Patrick Mahomes, football passed up on Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson. And it was after he took out a Heisman winner.

The Rock, aka, Dwayne Douglas Johnson is one of the most famous entities in the world right now. With his features in the Fast and Furious franchise alongside his stellar WWE career, very few remember his stint in football. One would not call it a stint, since he was never officially part of a team. Nevertheless, he still went on to leave a lasting mark on the world of sports.

Back in 1993, when Dwayne was at the University of Miami, he had the opportunity to take on a Heisman Award winner. The Rock recalled this incident in a conversation with Peyton Manning. The Rock shares a humorous take that he watches the highlight every single day to get himself started.

The rock goes on to share what Ward told him after he took him down. “It was this point where, when I got up, I heard Charlie tell me, “I’m going to make a career in the NBA. I don’t wanna mess in the NFL anymore.” I said okay buddy good luck.” Ward would go on to have a strong career in the NBA. But Dwayne Johnson never got his chance to crack it in the NFL.

Many might call it a joke if someone tells them the rock was part of a football franchise. Although he was never fully drafted, the Rock did try out for a practice roster with the Calgary Stampeders, a Canadian football team. This came after his run in his college team as a defensive tackle.

Despite playing for his college team for 4 years, Dwayne Johnson never tried out for the NFL. He would often find himself in the lower echelons of the pecking order for his college team. This hurt his chances in the long run. Even trying out with the CFL outfit saw him on the edge of falling out of football as he never truly stuck out with them. This abrupt and short career in football pushed him towards wrestling, and as we know it, the rest is history.

Dwayne Johnson might have had an entirely different career had he made a name for himself in the CFL. This may have seen his skills as a footballer be put to good use. But it would have rid his present fans of a world-class entertainer for ages to come.
