NBA viewership stands out despite NFL Christmas games

The traditional NBA games on December 25th had some competition with the NFL. Given the craze over football, basketball seemed to have some trouble in terms of viewership. It was the first time in football history that they played a triple header. They had the Dolphins-Packers, Bucs-Cardinals, and Rams-Broncos games lined up. But the NBA managed to have a high viewership rating.

According to Deadline, the NBA games televised on ABC and ESPN on Christmas Day had record viewing figures. The five-game Christmas Day schedule averaged 4.27 million viewers, up 5% from 4.08 million the year before. Moreover, the games on ESPN and ABC also saw 3% year-over-year gains in key demos such as P18-49 and P25-54.

Despite the competition, the NBA stood tall and went head-to-head with the NFL.
