However, he then clarified that he feels really happy to see Griner coming back home, but he could not believe that they left a Marine. Hence, he criticized President Joe Biden. “I just have family who have served and it’s crazy to me the President wouldn’t bring him home too. I’m the furthest thing from a trump supporter but I’m not a fan of Biden either,” Parsons tweeted.

Then he posted another tweet, apologizing for not knowing the full story. I should have been more educated on the topic and not tweeted out of emotion for my family and other who have served. For that I apologize… I pray Mr. Whelan comes home but am extremely happy for Brittney and her family.  I am not too prideful to admit when I’ve made a mistake,” Parsons said in another tweet.

According to multiple reports, US officials proposed multiple options to secure both Whelan and Griner’s release. However, the Russian officials did not agree and only gave one option to the US officials to secure the release of Griner. Thus, President Biden had to make this difficult choice to only get Griner back home.

Earlier in February, the Russian Police arrested Griner, as they found some amount of cannabis oil in her bag. After that, she pleaded guilty in court and the Russian court sentenced her to 9 years in prison. Then, they appealed against the decision, which was later upheld by the Russian court. Now, the WNBA star is finally returning home, after months of negotiation.
