It’s been a chaotic few months in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles. The 2018 Super Bowl champions were in disarray as the team ended dead last of the NFC East. The same NFC East where the top seed Washington Football Team ended the season with a 7-9 losing record.

A lot of problems cropped up for the franchise, but their primary issues revolved around the dismal showing of quarterback Carson Wentz. The quarterback finished the 2020 season with under 3,000 passing yards and accumulated 15 interceptions in that stretch.

Wentz was once touted as the future of the Philadelphia Eagles. But in his last season with the franchise, he saw his replacement, Jalen Hurts, take over the reigns.

Now, with Carson Wentz being traded to the Colts and new head coach Nick Sirianni taking over from Doug Pederson, the Eagles can finally look to plug the loopholes that caused their implosion in 2020.

Or can they? According to reports, another Eagles Super Bowl winning superstar wants to follow suit and move away from Philly.

Philadelphia Eagles could let of Ertz

NFL reporter, Michael Silver, recently tweeted that Zach Ertz could indeed be on his way out of Philly. And the move might could come sooner than later.

Ertz, who was drafted by the franchise back in 2013, has made three Pro Bowl appearances in his last four seasons. The one season he missed out was 2020.

Ertz’s output declined dramatically as the tight end could only manage one solitary touchdown last season as compared to 6, 8, and 8 in the seasons before. And a lot of that has to do with all the uncertainty surrounding the role of the starting quarterback.

If the trade is to go through, the Eagles most likely play Dallas Goedert to fill in for Wentz. Goedert, playing less number of games than least season scored two more touchdowns than Ertz.

But it would be foolish of anyone to discredit the talent of Zach Ertz. He has shown time and again in the recent past that he can deliver on big plays when called upon.

With a cap hit of $12.5 million, one could expect a team like the New England Patriots to come in and swoop him up given their lack of depth in that position.
