1984 first-round pick Michael Jordan is regarded as one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) basketball players to feature in the NBA. The North Carolina-born athlete led the Chicago Bulls to 6 NBA Championships. Jordan was voted as MVP in all three finals. Many critics and analysts claim that he is the greatest sportsman of all time. But in Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, MJ may have found a worthy contender for that title.

At 25, Mahomes is already a Super Bowl winner and MVP (Super Bowl LIV) and a league MVP (2018). He has the chance to win a 2nd championship ring on Sunday as the Chiefs travel to Florida. They will take on Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Raymond James Stadium on February 7, 2020.

Here’s what a certain former NFL player-turned-analyst has to say on comparisons involving Patrick Mahomes and the great Michael Jordan.

Shannon Sharpe likens Patrick Mahomes to Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan

Once again, Super Bowl 2018 MVP Patrick Mahomes was the topic of discussion on the latest segment of Fox Sports Network’s Skip and Shannon: Undisputed. NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe was comparing the Chiefs quarterback to Chicago Bulls legend and six-time NBA Champion, Michael Jordan.

He said, “Mahomes is off to the best start that we’ve ever seen for a quarterback and this is a young career. You figured he won the MVP in the second season his first season as a starter. He was Super Bowl MVP and his third season, second season as a starter. He’s made the Pro Bowl every single year.”

“He has 25 wins in 26 games, and he’s reached the AFC Championship game…Jordan didn’t have that level of team success skill. He was an outstanding player, but he didn’t enjoy the level of the team’s success…I don’t believe a player in the NFL has had a seasoned career in his first three years as a starter compared to Mahomes,” Sharpe said on the show.

While Mahomes might have had a great start to his career, he still has a long way to go in order to reach the level of someone like MJ. Of course, the youngster won’t be paying much heed to these comments.
