Soccer Legend Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the entire sports fraternity after he chose an Arabian club Al Nassr following his split with Manchester United last year. It turns out, the Saudi club was not the only place under his radar. He was quite close to signing a deal in Major League Soccer. Among the list of teams, Sporting Kansas City happened to offer a compelling deal, the same club partly owned by the Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Luring Ronaldo to the United States would have been a great steal, changing the entire landscape of MLS. Moreover, it could have offered a shift of focus for the fans from Patrick Mahomes to the Portuguese star. Analyst Taylor Twellman disclosed the news on social media, giving insights into how the situations unraveled before the Saudi deal.

Ever since Ronaldo parted ways with the English club, franchises all across the world inquired about his availability. A bidding war began. And guess what? Mahomes’ SportingKC was never behind in this race.
Per reports, the entire package had various perks, like a stake in the ownership of the club, and profits from the international jersey sales. Initially, Ronaldo’s managing team looked impressed and had multiple talks. However, after contemplating all the available options, they decided to accept the Saudi deal. This move also begins a new chapter in the veteran’s career.
The 37-year-old is estimated to make $75 million a year, along with other perks in the contract. Moreover, the agreement will stay valid through the Summer of 2025.
“I am eager to experience a new football league in a different country. Al Nassr Club’s vision is very inspiring. I am happy to join my teammates so that together we can help it achieve more success,” Ronaldo said after signing the deal with Al Nassr.
Fans were left speechless learning Cristiano Ronaldo could have been a household name in KC
Indeed, the moment could have been historic, but the deal slipped through the hands. The KC fans would have had an opportunity for a lifetime to brag about hosting two legends of their respective fields.
