The 12th of July marked a special day for Patrick Mahomes in the 2023 calendar. Not only did it announce the release of the highly anticipated highly awaited Netflix Documentary ‘Quarterback’. The family celebrated the birthday of Mahomes’ half-sister, Mia Mahomes. And they would top it off with Mahomes being crowned as one of the best athletes in the world with the latest edition of the ESPN Awards ceremony.

With the likes of Lionel Messi, Novak Djokovic among the esteemed nominees alongside the Chiefs QB. Only Mahomes and Messi managed to take home more than one accolade to their name on a fruitful night. With the 2x Super Bowl winner matching the World Champion stride for stride on the night and beating him to the punch in one category. His sister’s birthday and Mahomes’ achievement will add to the memories of the family.

The NFL MVP for the 2022 season encapsulated the previous season by leading his team to the Super Bowl finals. Despite experiencing wobbles throughout the season, especially after losing Tyreek Hill before 2022 began. Mahomes and Co. would deliver the Super Bowl yet again after falling short the season before. Mahomes’ efforts on the pitch did not go unnoticed.

As the Chiefs captain would go on to earn the ESPY award for Best Athlete in Men’s Sports. The QB came ahead of Novak Djokovic, Lionel Messi, and Aaron Judge to be crowned with the honor. But it would not be his only accolade to wear on the night. As the QB, arguably one of the best in the league, would take home the title of the Best NFL player.

Mahomes’ crowning moment in the Super Bowl was appreciated and respected as he was bestowed with the title of Best NFL Player. He would win the honor ahead of the likes of Jalen Hurts, Nick Bosa, and Justin Jefferson. But he was not the only athlete to take home two awards on the night. His soccer counterpart, Lionel Messi, boasts two awards to his name after a monumental feat last season.

After the World Cup eluded the best player in the history of Soccer almost his entire career. Messi would go on to finally win the competition that cemented his legacy in the sport in December 2022. The World Cup in Qatar would be remarked as one of the best because of the tantalizing final it delivered between Argentina and France. And Messi’s achievement was honored by ESPY as they awarded the Inter Miami signing with Best Championship Performance for the World Cup Final.

Messi won the Best Championship Performance award by beating the likes of Leon Edwards, Nikola Jokic, and Rose Zhang. Messi nabbed one more award on the night to his name. As he beat the treble winner Erling Haaland, Aitana Bonmati of Barcelona, and Sophia Smith of Portland Thorns, to win the Best Soccer Player award on the night.

The ESPY has honored and showered respect on two of the biggest athletes on the American continent. After the duo shone the brightest in a year they proved their mettle to their rivals and fans yet again.
