Cincinnati Bengals, Joe Goodberry, a top-tier analyst of the sport took to Twitter to share his concerns. The tweet allegedly threw shade on the World Cup winner, which irked more than a couple of fans. But what exactly did he say?

Goodberry has been analyzing football and the Bengals for over a decade on Twitter. The analyst has been sharing his takes which have been regarded highly in the NFL community. The man from the Athletic has witnessed some of his work feature on the top platforms earning him positive reviews and acclaim for his words. But his words on the soccer GOAT will be one that seemed to have the opposite effect on fans.

In a tweet that’s shorter than 10 words, Goodberry almost discredited the superstar as quickly as he tweeted about him. His words, “I don’t know who this man is.” This was just moments after Messi set foot in the MLS making his debut with Inter Miami. One fan took out the graphs to educate the analyst as he tweeted, “No hate but that’s crazy, he’s legitimately more popular than LeBron James and Tom Brady combined.”

The Bengals analysts’ words only incited rage from the soccer fanatics as they invited themselves to inform him of the man he was passing over with his tweet. Having won 2 ESPYs and a world cup in the past 12 months, the fans weren’t gonna let the shade pass by.

Goodberry’s tweet aimed at Messi seemed to have awoken the ‘La Pulga’ fans. Since they showed up in numbers to defend the man who has given the fans some of the best soccer in the world.
One fan shared what seemed to be an undeniable fact in his eyes. He tweeted, “He’s probably the best soccer player of all time and one of the most famous people in the world.”
Another fan roasted Goodberry and possibly some of the biggest names in America with his subtle dig. He added, “Imagine Jim Brown, Jerry Rice and Tom Brady were one person. basically that.”
While one fan simply respected the soccer superstar with their tweet, “He’s one of the goats of professional sports”

They were followed up by another fan who advocated for Lionel Messi. He’d make a subtle comparison with NBA legend Michael Jordan and said, “He is the GOAT! Go look how he won the game this evening. Him coming to the mls is the equivalent of Jordan going to the French basketball league in his prime.”
Another fan topped him off as they’d take a dig at the biggest icons of the NFL. As the fan added, “Bigger cultural icon than Mahomes and maybe Brady could ever be”
