In a first-of-its-kind revamp in the last 30 years, the NFL changed its playoff format due to a new collective league agreement. The alterations to the new expanded playoffs include more participants, new first-round bye rules, and a different schedule.

League officials have increased the playoffs team numbers from 12 to 14 teams to feature seven teams per conference. There will still be four division winners. But there will be an extra wild-card team from both, the NFC and AFC.
