The hype surrounding Super Bowl 2021 is at a fever pitch. Arguably two of the best quarterbacks to ever grace the league, taking on one another at the grandest stage of them all; Patrick Mahomes vs Tom Brady.

Super Bowl 2021 will be a record first for many reasons. It’ll be the first time a franchise plays a Super Bowl game at its home ground. It will also be the first time that the last 2 quarterbacks to win the Super Bowl meet at the summit tie.

But the main hype still surrounds the legacies at stake. The GOAT Tom Brady against the man who can challenge his stake as the best ever, Patrick Mahomes.

Tom Brady versus Mahomes: A showdown for the ages

The two quarterbacks have met in the NFL Playoffs in the past. And last time around it was Brady who came out on top. But the last time the 2 squared off in the regular season, it was Mahomes and the Chiefs who ran away with the win.

With no clear favorite to win this tie, Mike Greenberg during a segment of ESPN’s Get Up talked about the weightage of this tie and how it goes beyond just being a regular Super Bowl tie.

“This is the first ever Super Bowl between the last two Super Bowl winning quarterbacks, but that’s not even the point,” said Greenberg.

The greatest Super Bowl matchup in history

Referring to a statement made by former NFL quarterback Tony Romo, Greenberg added that the tie-up is one that pits 2 legacies against one another.

“Tony Romo said this on the telecast the other day, this is like if Michael Jordan got to play with LeBron James in the Finals right now. We actually get to see it.”

The 2 quarterbacks are at different stages of their career. Brady, now 43, is in the twilight years but is still challenging for the Super Bowl title.

Meanwhile, Mahomes is looking at establishing a legacy himself that could one day replicate or overtake the one established by Tom Brady.

“Their age is generally close enough. They’re 18 years apart in age and we actually get to see the all-time great against the heir to his throne. To me, it’s the best Super Bowl matchup ever,” added Greenberg.
