The Texas-born quarterback Patrick Mahomes II was born to Pat and Randi Mahomes in 1995. His father was a famous baseball pitcher who played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and other MLB teams. Due to this, Patrick Mahomes had to move around a lot during his childhood.

Growing up, Mahomes showed an aptitude for football and baseball right up until his junior year at Texas A&M. After being promoted to starting quarterback in 2015, Mahomes made a strong impression in the Big 12 Conference League.

He finished his sophomore year with 4,653 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. He quit baseball the following year, which proved to be a smart decision in the long scheme of things.

Sean Payton knew Patrick Mahomes was a ‘catch’ even before the 2017 NFL Draft

New Orleans Saints HC Sean Payton made a guest appearance on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football telecast earlier today.

Payton recalled the time made a 2017 pre-draft visit to Texas Tech along with a handful of assistants. A certain starry-eyed quarterback did catch his attention, Payton chuckled.

He said, “Yeah, we spent a full day on that campus. We came away from there, like, just blown away. Impressed. I know I made the comment that [Mahomes] is the best quarterback, the best college quarterback I’ve ever evaluated.

“There were all the other checks, the things you don’t see on video. His personality was fantastic. He was one of those guys probably always hanging out in the gym after high school, he comes from an athletic family. He’s got a bright smile. It was all there,” Payton said on the show.

Mahomes has grown into arguably one of the best quarterbacks to arrive in the NFL over the last decade. The 25-year-old has the opportunity to add another Super Bowl ring to his already impressive CV this weekend.
