Aaron Rodgers has been at the receiving end of a tremendous amount of scrutiny over the past few weeks. Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship game.

After the game, Rodgers suggested that he may be calling time on his stint in the Frozen Tundra. However, he subsequently backtracked on the comments and doubled down on his future with the Packers.

Former NFL player Charles Woodson spoke about Rodgers’ future in Wisconsin recently. He opined that Rodgers will follow the same path as Tom Brady and play for another team at the tail end of his career.

Brady’s continuing success in the latter stages of his career is a testament to the fact that players can play well into their dotage, especially if they are as gifted as Rodgers and Brady himself.

He said, “I kind of see him along the same lines as Tom Brady. I think these guys think that they could play forever. Brady’s proven that you can play at 43, be successful, make it to a Super Bowl.

“I think Rodgers is probably in that same realm as far as saying, ‘Hey, I can play at least 6 more years’.”

Although Woodson noted that Rodgers will be committed to the Packers for the near future, all bets are off when it comes to the distant future.

“In that sense, if his career does extend that long, he’ll be playing for somebody else by the end of that. But in the immediate next couple 2-3 years, they’re going to go give him some more money, keep him happy.”

Aaron Rodgers looking to leave Green Bay?

Woodson noted that the Green Bay Packers will incentivize Rodgers by giving him a better deal. He further added that they will allow Rodgers to more control in matters concerning the roster and the team. Additionally, the franchise will grant him more control over their future direction.

“They’re going to try to do some things as far as the franchise, maybe involve him a little more as far as who they’re bringing in, who they’re looking at.

“Give him some say so as far as who’s on that team, who they’re looking at free agent-wise to make him happy.”

Woodson doubled down on the idea that Rodgers is the best player for Green Bay at the moment. He believes that the Packers should do whatever they can to keep him happy for the next few years. However, as Rodgers enters the latter stages of his career, he will certainly consider jumping ship to another team.

He said, “He’s the best man for the job in Green Bay, there’s no question about that. If he was to be gone next year, Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Packers fans all around the world would not be happy.

“I think he’ll be there for the foreseeable future, but if his career extends as long as I’m sure as he wants, he’ll be playing for somebody else.”
