Deshaun Watson shocked the NFL world last night. Rumors emerged that Watson formally handed in a trade request to the Houston Texans. This comes off the back of Watson feeling disrespected by the Texans franchise for not consulting him in the hiring of their new GM, after promising to do so. And now it appears he has been linked to the Cleveland Browns.

However, the Browns’ current quarterback is not happy with the links. Baker Mayfield took to Twitter to respond to the link between Deshaun Watson and Cleveland Browns. Mayfield was clearly upset with the links, tweeting 👌🏻Some of y’all “browns” are funny”.

Baker Mayfield’s disappointment is understandable. He was one of the highlights of the Cleveland Browns team this year. And he was able to lead the franchise to their first playoff run since 2002. Furthermore, Mayfield was instrumental for the Browns as they went on to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wildcard round of the playoffs.

However, the Browns have every reason to move for Deshaun Watson. Despite his improvement in performances, the quarterback position has been a weakness for the Cleveland Browns for several years now. And while Mayfield was good this year, Watson would be an upgrade over him. Given how desperate he is to leave, the Browns may seriously consider moving for him.

Deshaun Watson has been one of the most loyal players to the Texans franchise. But it appears as though what was earlier an unbreakable bond is now beyond repair. Watson has lost all trust in the Texans’ front office after they snubbed him from the decision-making process. And their franchise star has declared this the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The franchise tried to make it up to Watson, with the owner Cal McNair even issuing an apology to Watson. However, it appears as though the apology was too little too late. Now, the Texans may have to find the best suitable package and trade Watson. For a player that has done everything for the franchise, he deserves to dictate his own future if he so chooses.
