The Detroit Lions have been one of the most impressive teams in the NFL this season. They have had only one loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week Two. Their quarterback, Jared Goff, has been playing at an MVP level, breaking a franchise record for consecutive games with a QB rating of 85.0 or higher. He has also earned the admiration of one of the best quarterbacks in the league, Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers, who is currently sidelined with an injury and plays for the New York Jets, appeared on the Pat McAfee Show recently and expressed his fondness for Goff, his former division rival. Let’s dive deeper to understand the friendship between Rodgers & Goff.

Rodgers’ praise is well-deserved by Goff. He has been leading the Lions’ explosive offense that ranks fourth in the league in points per game with 28.0 after six weeks. 4x MVP Aaron Rodgers said: “I really like Jared, I’ve been friends with him for a long time, obviously. I pull for him because he’s a Cal [California] guy.”
In a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, he said, “I think there was some semblance when he [Goff] was traded. He’s going to go just kind of disappear in Detroit, where some careers have gone to die over the years.” Aaron Rodgers no longer worries about his friend Jared Goff because, he added: “As we’ve seen, this is not the same Detroit Lions team.” Veteran Rodgers highlighted the changing Detroit Lions and reminded everyone it’s still early in the NFL season. He urged caution amidst overreactions.
Goff has thrown for 1,618 yards, 11 touchdowns, and only three interceptions so far, with a QBR of 73.3 that ranks fourth in the league as well. Goff has also credited his improved performance to his collaboration with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and quarterbacks coach Mark Brunell.
Lions face new challenges every week but they are well-prepared with established solutions. But Goff’s testament standing alone in the league.

Goff and his teammates are not satisfied with their strong start though; they have bigger goals in mind. After their 20-6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday in week 6, Goff said: “We’ve played well through six weeks. And I think it’s hard to play well all year; that’s our goal.”
Goff has also shown some competitive fire toward Rodgers, who left the Green Bay Packers after a long and successful tenure to join the Jets in the offseason. In an interview earlier, Goff said: “I wish him the best in New York and I’m sure he’ll do a great job there,” but added: “But I kind of wish he was still here so we could beat him twice a year.” His comment went viral on social media and sparked some friendly banter between the two quarterbacks.
