Surprisingly, the game against the Minnesota Vikings turned out to be one of the hardest games for the San Francisco 49ers. They not only lost the match but also struggled through it. While the 49ers did not have key players, the Vikings played with exceptional proficiency. It is worth noting that Brock Purdy managed to shock everyone with his poor performance as a quarterback.
Many fans and analysts were not pleased with this development. Besides this, Skip Bayless’s opinions about the 49ers were also worth mentioning. Purdy caught him off-guard with his performance, and he voiced his opinions regarding the 49ers’ quarterbacking.

After the 49ers’ brutal loss against the Minnesota Vikings, Skip Bayless went on to express his opinions on X. He said, “Very surprised Brock Purdy threw two 4th-quarter interceptions. Hmmm. Wonder whatever happened to that Trey Lance kid?” Bayless was not impressed by Purdy throwing interceptions, especially in the fourth quarter, that immediately resulted in the Vikings’ victory.

In the initial weeks of the season, Purdy was one of the strongest quarterbacks in the league. However, after Christian McCaffrey’s oblique injury in Week 6, Purdy does not seem to be doing too well on the field. Bayless could not hold his disappointment and wondered what happened to Trey Lance that the 49ers completely let go of him. Well, Lance was the 49ers’ QB for the longest period, and he played well. So, why was he traded at all?
Trey Lance was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in August 2023. The quarterback was a top 5 pick for the 49ers, and he was exchanged for a fourth-round draft pick in 2024. This exchange does not seem to give much value to Lance when he is one of the best quarterbacks, as well. Now, he is a backup QB. Why?

The Dallas Cowboys were, first of all, unexpected to trade for quarterback Lance. But they did so to add more depth to their quarterback room. Trey Lance has immense potential embedded in him, and he can reach heights and become a franchise quarterback. The Cowboys acted on their foresightedness and exchanged for Lance while they could.
Not to mention, he was pretty cheap for the team to acquire, though expensive for the 49ers. That is due to the QB still being on his rookie contract. The San Francisco 49ers were also looking for a low-cost quarterback, and they found Brock Purdy.
