Was that a costly error by the Buccaneers‘ new play-caller? In the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles clash, the Buccaneers found themselves trailing 20-3. The pivotal moment came when backup cornerback Dee Delaney secured an impressive interception, granting the Bucs possession of the ball at their own half-yard line.

It was a golden opportunity to reverse their fortune. Before questioning whether the Buccaneers made a wise decision in their next play call, Bucs Offensive Coordinator Dave Canales takes heat for loss on his head.

Bucs OC Dave Canales takes full responsibility

Instead of opting for a quick pass to star receivers like Mike Evans or Chris Godwin, which could have gained them precious yards and breathing space, they chose to execute a run right up the middle with RB Rachaad White. Prior attempts at running the ball had yielded minimal yardage, with one instance resulting in no gain at all.

The Buccaneers faced a tough loss, and now fans are looking closely at Dave Canales, the man calling the shots for their offense. However, Bucs OC himself came forward to take responsibility, writing on X (Formerly Twitter) – “If it’s gonna be it starts with me!”

What truly left fans disheartened was the absence of wide receivers spread out on the field during this crucial play. They had Rakim Jarrett, a backup receiver, positioned in the backfield to assist with blocking. Given the formidable defensive line of the Eagles, this strategy appeared to court danger and jeopardize the Buccaneers’ chances of conceding a safety, a scenario where the defense tackles the offense within their own end zone for valuable points.

After the Buccaneers lost to the Eagles 25-11 in Week 3, their head coach Todd Bowles talked to the media. He didn’t blame just the running backs, Rachaad White and Sean Tucker, who didn’t perform well. Bowles also said the offensive line had a part in the loss, and it was a team effort. Bowles said. “It’s everybody.”

Bowles pointed out that the team struggled on first downs, whether they ran the ball or passed it. The big question now is whether the Buccaneers will make changes to fix these issues. But it’s tough because all the good running backs are already signed with other teams for the 2023 season.
