A promising shift in the San Francisco quarterback narrative: Is doubt fading around QB1 Brock Purdy? Sturdy Purdy’s top QBR raises hope for the 49ers. According to ESPN’s latest surprise report, entering Week 7 in the NFL, Purdy is outranking the beloved QB Patrick Mahomes and all the quarterbacks.

With an indelible pen on the report card, Purdy’s stellar start is written as a 111.3 passer rating and the first QB with six consecutive regular-season starts above 95.0.
According to Kleiman, Sturdy Purdy is leading the league with dominance. Entering Week 7 of the 2023 NFL season, Brock Purdy of the 49ers leads the league in Quarterback Rating (QBR) with an impressive 77.0, closely followed by Josh Allen of the Bills at 75.3. Tua Tagovailoa from the Dolphins, Jared Goff of the Lions, and Pat Mahomes of the Chiefs complete the top five with solid QBR ratings.

Now, he has become Mr. Relevant. Born in Queen Creek, Arizona, he was named the starting quarterback for the first week of the 2023 season because, in his initial six regular season starts, he consistently delivered a minimum of two touchdown passes in each game. Hence, the shroud of doubt may finally lift from the 49ers’ QB1. Is it so?

In six games before Week 7, Purdy has just one interception, standing great and alone with 1,396 yards and 10 touchdowns. And there is so much attention on QB Brock Purdy because, despite concerns about his pedigree and limited game time, Purdy’s consistent touchdown throws and guidance from Kyle Shanahan make him a promising late-round sleeper for the 49ers.

Purdy’s NFL journey so far: With 15 games and 11 starts, he has racked up 224 completions out of 333 attempts, tallying 2,770 yards at an impressive 8.3-yard average. He has thrown 23 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, endured 22 sacks, and earned a solid 109.6 passer rating.
Isn’t it super impressive to be an underdog and a lesser-paid QB? Additionally, in rushing, Purdy has carried the ball 37 times for 44 yards at a 1.2-yard average with 3 touchdowns and 5 fumbles, losing 1.
Brock Purdy: A ‘system quarterback’?
The quarterback for the 49ers, hailing from Gilbert, AZ, boasts a solid physique at 220 lbs, with 29-inch arms and 9 1/4-inch hands. Purdy opens up to Rich Eisen, revealing his journey from Mr. Irrelevant to NFL MVP contender, addressing skeptics who brand him a “system QB,” and emphasizing, “People can say what they want; that’s cool.” But he adds, “We’ll see at the end of all this if that’s true or not.” Smartly, Purdy suggests that, in the end, everything will become clear to every critic.
Note that with 2 years of college experience at Iowa State, this 23-year-old signal-caller brings potential to the Bay Area. Purdy also responds to another question from Eisen: “What about your upbringing or anything that you think you can hang your hat on?”

Purdy’s reply is interesting: “This is about me, this is my story. I don’t think like that.” He adds, “Having a purpose in your life, that’s where I’m at…obviously you’ve got legends and people that you grew up watching that you’re able to now talk to and stuff.” His focus on personal purpose and humility highlights his down-to-earth approach to the NFL. “But man, I see, they’re human too. I’m human. We’re not these gods or anything crazy, so I don’t know, I just try to keep it simple.”
