The Washington Commanders are having an extremely dismal 2023 season as they trail with a record of 2-3. Amid this, there is some news coming out from the Commanders’ headquarters that might change their future. The Commanders might not be happy with the defensive side of things. Montez Sweat and Chase Young might get all the smoke, but that’s left to be seen.
Both DEs have a significant change happening in their contract by the end of this season. The Commanders might not want to miss this chance to swap around and see what works for them. They are in turmoil and rank third in the NFC East.

A tweet from Dov Kleiman speculates what happens to Chase Young and Montez Sweat by the end of this season. They will turn free agents soon. But these are rumors because both players have a decent run this season. However, there are indications from AFC executives that these NFC players might soon transition to the AFC universe.

It is to be noted that both players started with the Washington Commanders as their NFL debut. For this season, Chase Young has 8 solo tackles and 3 sacks. As for Montez Sweat, he is sitting at 15 solo tackles and 4.5 sacks, along with 2 forced fumbles. Chase Young has played 32 games with the Commanders, and as for Sweat, he played 65 games with the Commanders in the span of 5 seasons, including this one.
Besides this, Sweat has only 1 return TD to his name throughout his career, and it is the same with Chase Young. Whether the rumors are true, the Commanders seriously need to concentrate on this season. At this point, it is unlikely that these players will be traded, but the deal is still on the table.
Commanders are not in control anymore
The season for the Commanders has been utterly disappointing. They rank third in the NFC East, just above the New York Giants, with whom they are playing tomorrow at the MetLife Stadium. The Giants are facing a long list of issues of their own. Recently, they let Cole Beasley go for unknown reasons. On top of that, their star players, Daniel Jones and Andrew Thomas, are in an injury slump, along with 13 others.

Comparing the Giants’ injury list to the Commanders, the Giants need a favor from the almighty to pull a victory in the next game. Maybe they will come out as the underdogs after a prolonged slump of losses, just like how the Jets came in clutch against the Philadelphia Eagles. But that is only speculation.
