With the season in its fifth week, most teams have more-or-less figured out their preferred lineups. However, a few of the teams are working on modifications in their team as they gear up for the playoffs. While teams are eager to sign rookie players, some might face the prospect of losing their top players. One such team is the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals haven’t had the best of starts to the season and have lost three, winning their sole battle against the Cowboys. Their next clash against the mighty Bengals is perhaps the most vital one so far. Hence, they need more than a few deft touches from their best to win against their opponents. However, it will be difficult if they lose their best player, Kyler Murray.

Rumors have been circulating in the media that the Cardinals may have to remove their ace, Kyler Murray, from the pack. As per reports, the team will most likely move on from their No. 1 pick in the next season—the reason being the USC Trojans QB Caleb Williams.

Williams is expected to be at the top position in the 2024 NFL draft. Looking at his profile, it’s evident that most teams will be bidding for the young QB to join their team. The Cardinals are on the same bandwagon. As a result, the team is likely to bid adieu to their QB. An insider from ESPN reported, The outside speculation—the word I get when talking to agents and executives from other teams—is that the #Cardinals likely will move on after this season.”

On the other hand, experts are questioning the team’s decision. Murray was the #1 pick in the 2019 draft season and he signed a $230.5 million extension with the Cardinals in July 2022 for five years. Alongside this, the former University of Oklahoma QB was also selected for the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2021. Considering that the remarkable athlete, who also boasts a round 1 pick in MLB in 2018, will be scouted for aggressively by other teams if he has to leave the Cardinals, the question remains: Which team will benefit from the Cardinals surprise move?

What’s next in store for the 5 ft 10 in Quarterback?

Kyler Murray would not have much trouble finding a new team for the next season, given his credentials. This is in case the Cardinals release him—a counter-intuitive move—as attested by a fan who responded to the breaking news by writing, “And eat 80 million in dead cap? His extension hasn’t even kicked in yet.”

Others, like Going For Two Football Podcast, reaffirmed the stance that the Cardinals will indeed move on from Murray. They wrote, “The Cardinals will 100% move on from Kyler. He’s never been able to put everything together, and the play of Dobbs with a worse supporting cast, should seal this notion. Kyler needs a fresh start, and the Cardinals need a franchise QB.”
