The match against the New York Jets was extremely gritting, and the quarterback did not fail to make it even more so. Hurts got a golden opportunity to captivate the viewers and stun the entire league by flexing his strength. And that power is thanks to his engaging past.

Jalen Hurts is a powerful quarterback who has a compelling history of being a renowned powerlifter with several records. His past accomplishments in powerlifting have blessed the QB with the strengths and skills to excel on the football field. That jaw-dropping strength was naturally exhibited during the match against the Jets. How did that come to the surface?

On October 16, 2023, the NFL posted a short clip of Jalen Hurts slaying on the field. During the match, the quarterback made a brawny throw while the Jets defenders were draped all over him. However, Hurts managed to throw the ball to the sideline for A.J. Brown, flexing his ex-powerlifter side of him.

 

The commentator stated, “The second was hanging on to Jalen Hurts, who got rid of it for eight and a first down. And you’re going to get Michael Carter off the edge. The defensive Michael Carter, that is, and he’s going to cause Jalen Hurts to step up and then get out of the pocket.”

That was indeed an amazing throw by one of the best quarterbacks of the season. Jalen Hurts’ throw was quite fascinating, and one would naturally wonder why the quarterback was a powerlifter and what his records were. What made him quit powerlifting and join the National Football League?

Jalen Hurts began lifting weights when he was just a teenager while having an immense interest in football at the same time. His father was his high school football coach and showered his immense support on the now-quarterback to pursue powerlifting as a means to improve his strength and athleticism on the field. Not to mention that helped him develop his lower body strength.

By the age of 15, Hurts’ powerlifting records were 500-lb. squat, 260-lb. bench press, and 500-lb. deadlift for a total of 1260-lb. i.e., 572 kilograms! In the Texas Boys’ Divisional Championships on March 7, 2015, Hurts recorded his best-ever powerlifting total of 1430. The ex-powerlifter was already in vogue on social media for lifting 600 pounds while he was at the University of Oklahoma.

Even though Hurts was successful in powerlifting, he eventually quit the sport to pursue a career in football and decided to pay all his attention to it.
