According to official Detroit Lions PR posts on the platform now known as X, the team had set a remarkable new franchise record by surpassing the 20-point mark for the 14th consecutive game. This milestone also marked the first instance in franchise history, “This marks the first time in franchise history Detroit has scored 27+ points in the first half of consecutive games,” showcasing their offensive prowess.

Further contributing to the Lions’ success, Jared Goff etched his name in franchise history. Goff became just the second QB in the team’s history to complete at least 75.0% of his passes while throwing three touchdowns in the first half of a game, with a minimum of 15 attempts. Per Detroit Lions PR, “His 3 TDs tie for the most by a Lions QB in the first half of a game since at least 1991,” underlining his exceptional skill.

Additionally, rookie tight end Sam LaPorta made franchise history by recording multiple touchdown receptions of 30 or more yards in a single season, a feat that had not been accomplished by a Lions tight end since Jim Gibbons in 1964. Per Detroit Lions PR, “His two TD receptions today mark the 5th time in franchise history a rookie TE has logged a multi-TD game,” that a rookie tight end had achieved such a multi-touchdown performance.

The Lions’ defense was also making significant contributions to their success, with cornerback Jerry Jacobs standing out by securing his third interception in just two games. “He’s the first Lions CB to log 3+ INTs in a two-game span since Darius Slay in 2017.”Detroit Lions PR posted on social media. Jacobs became the first Lions cornerback to achieve three or more interceptions in a two-game span since Darius Slay accomplished the same feat back in 2017.

However, The Lions’ impressive streak and record-breaking performances were not confined to Week 5 alone.

The extended Lions’ dominance

In their previous game against the Green Bay Packers, they had stunned the crowd at Lambeau Field by dominating the first half, scoring an unprecedented 27 points—their highest ever against the Packers in 187 games. This remarkable display also extended their streak of scoring over 20 points to 13 consecutive games, tying a record set back in 1995.

With a commanding lead of three touchdowns, the Lions managed to maintain their advantage and secure a 34-20 victory over the Packers, solidifying their position as leaders in the NFC North.

As they returned to Ford Field, they aimed to build on their success and secure a win against the Panthers, seeking redemption for their previous season’s loss. At the time, the Detroit Lions dominated the Carolina Panthers 42-24, securing a strong 4-1 season start with a convincing win from start to finish.
