It’s crazy how things change so fast. One minute, there was slander all around the Cowboys, and now they are on the top again! Or at least close enough. The Red Kettle Kickoff game came as a lucky charm for Dak Prescott because he did something that he never did in his career. Dak Prescott broke Dak Prescott’s record. This is a team known for stellar defense and this is the team who won against the Chargers with just two touchdowns.

Brandin Cooks did some numbers too, getting his debut touchdown of the season and helping the Cowboys with first downs that made the team go even faster. Dak Prescott’s comeback is not short of praise, and he might be back in the Cowboys’ fans’ good books after the game. But there is something that still bothers the critiques about Dak Prescott. And it can’t be overlooked because now his dedication towards the Cowboys might be in question.

NFL recently uploaded a video of Dak Prescott dashing through the Chargers, avoiding them, and going to the finish line unscathed. He ran for 18 yards and scored a touchdown that put the Cowboys on the map as they trailed 0-7. The video shows Prescott catching a snap, then faking a pass that did a stellar job of keeping the Chargers distracted. He ran for the touchdown as the Chargers and the Cowboys piled up on each other. Only a handful of people realized what was going on and by that time, it was too late.

He was asked about his 4 on 1, 18-yard touchdown in the post-game interview. Prescott mentions how his teammates kept the Chargers busy and that it was a great play call overall. In addition to this, not showing his legs for the better part of the year helped him out because the Chargers didn’t expect it. Despite all the questions Prescott is surrounded by, he does a pretty good job of gelling with his teammates, as he says in the interview.

Contrary to the record-setting move, there are questions about Prescott’s choices and his career trajectory.

Long battle ahead for Prescott, can he run?

Well, the answer to that question is yes. Prescott started his career with the Cowboys back in 2016. With 7 seasons already under his belt, we’ve seen the QB1 go for the end zone multiple times. Prescott completed the 2016 season with 23 touchdowns out of the 16 games that he played. He peaked in 2021 with a whopping 37 touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 104.2.

It’s not like he can’t move. He did score a rushing touchdown back in 2018. There is no question about Prescott’s mobility, but does he only show it under dire circumstances? This might be the reason why some of the critics are upset with Prescott and think that he can do better. After the bitter defeat against the 49ers, Prescott had to show up. Especially since most of the Cowboys’ offense was banged up from the last game.

The team only scored 2 touchdowns and managed to win the game. The defense did a stellar job during that 18-yard rush. There is a visible improvement in Prescott’s performance since the last game. Hopefully, he keeps that trajectory.
