Jerry Rice, affectionately known as “World,” earned his stripes with the San Francisco 49ers, clinching three Super Bowl titles during his illustrious career. But it was in 1987, during a strike-shortened season, that Rice set the record that seemed destined to stand forever: 22 receiving touchdowns in a twelve-game streak.

But, the Athletic’s David Lombardi delivered the news: “History for Christian McCaffrey: A TD in 13 straight games, which breaks Jerry’s Rice 49ers record.” In a feat of sheer determination, McCaffrey overtook Rice’s record, marking his touchdown territory with 13 consecutive games.

Lombardi also pointed out that McCaffrey’s amazing run began during the Niners’ 2022 win over the Dolphins when Brock Purdy took over as the signal-caller. Incredibly, the Niners suffered only one defeat during CMC’s run, proving his consistent dominance.

McCaffrey’s excellence didn’t stop with shattering records, though. He snagged the coveted honor of NFC Offensive Player of the Month for September for his performance in the first three games of the 2023 season. This marks McCaffrey’s latest brush with NFL history!

The 49ers are 4-0 and counting

Fast forward to the 2023 season, and McCaffrey continued to dazzle with his dominance. In Week 1 against the Steelers, he racked up 152 yards on the ground, a TD, and 17 yards through the air. The highlight of the game was a jaw-dropping 65-yard scamper to the end zone, which not only displayed his skills but also highlighted the teamwork of his fellow Niners.

In Week 3, McCaffrey, facing the Giants, piled up 85 yards on the ground, punched in another TD, and added 34 yards as a receiver, showcasing his consistent brilliance. However, the crowning moment came in Week 4 when McCaffrey set a Niners record by finding pay dirt four times, leading his team to a convincing 35-16 win over the Cardinals. He finished the game with 106 yards on the ground, cementing his status as an unstoppable force in the 2023 NFL season.

With a perfect 4-0 record after week 4, the Niners are riding high on McCaffrey’s wave of excellence. Is he the NFL’s new record-breaker? It sure looks that way.
