Home/NFL

The 49ers might just have faced the most humbling losses of the season back-to-back. First, it was the Browns, and now the Minnesota team didn’t hesitate to raid whatever the 49ers had left after the Browns game. Brock Purdy is amid heavy scrutiny from NFL pundits and people are digging out old stacks just to see where the 49ers are going wrong. Amid this, CMC also came out and took the smoke on himself. But one man, Pat McAfee, still is trying hard to place his trust in the Niners.

Pat McAfee still holds the San Francisco 49ers in the highest regard and has some debatable opinions about the team. While some might agree with him, others think that his opinions are hyperbole at best. He tried to make a convincing case for the Niners on his show recently.

McAfee starts off by mentioning that the Niners can still win a Super Bowl this year. Although two losses might not mean much to the 1 team in the NFC North, they sure are problematic for the future. Per McAfee, the downfall started when the team lost Trey Lance. He mentions how the expectations from the Niners are different from that of the Buffalo Bills, for example, who lost to the New England Patriots.

He mentions how the 49ers have gone ‘all in’ and haven’t had a top 60 draft pick In the last two years. Per McAfee, the 49ers are doing well financially as everyone is well compensated and the QB has a short-term contract. This textbook fund management keeps everyone happy and keeps them motivated to do better. For some reason, McAfee thinks that the Bills making it to the SB is less significant than the Niners.

Super Bowl or not, the team is under heavy scrutiny both from the inside and also from journos and fans.

The blemishes on the 49ers franchise

Recently, people started digging deep into Brock Purdy ever since the team lost to the Cleveland Browns. It was speculated that Purdy is nothing without the great offensive pieces like George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, and Brandon Aiyuk beside him. People even hold Kyle Shanahan in high regard for implanting the systems in the team’s QB1. Would the future be different for Purdy if he had taken the Vikings deal?

Well, it’s safe to say that Purdy might not be getting a lot of highlights if he took the Vikings contract. That would mean playing under Kirk Cousins and not getting a lot of starts, which would mean that he would not have risen to stardom as fast as he did. But is it fair to judge the No. 1 QB in the league after just two losses? Ups and downs are a part of the game and though some teams hold more superiority than others, doesn’t mean that they will automatically qualify for the Super Bowl.

Surprising things happen in the league, and it is not productive to jump on a bandwagon based on insufficient data. The team still leads the NFC West, but by the looks of it, things can change anytime.
