Following the Seattle Seahawks defeat, it is suggested that Head Coach Brian Daboll should consider resigning or be asked to be traded from the Giants. The host of “The Volume” reacted to the Seattle Seahawks‘ victory over the New York Giants on NFL Monday Night Football, where they dominated Daniel Jones and his team.

According to Colin Cowherd, it would be a good idea for Brian Daboll to resign or ask for a trade from the Giants. The question arises: Does Daniel Jones deserve all the blame for the Giants’ struggles, especially considering his 0-7 record on Monday Night Football?

According to old reports, Daboll was the favored candidate for the Chargers‘ head coaching job. Many believed he was the perfect coach to turn Justin Herbert into a superstar, and it seemed likely that the Chargers would hire him. Therefore, Colin Cowherd, a 59-year-old media personality, commented on his show, ‘The Volume’: “Brian Daboll is trapped, great coach trapped. Um, he wanted the Chargers job. I think deep down he wanted Justin Herbert. He was friends with the GM Tom Telesco.”

Interestingly, in the early 1990s, Tom Telesco and Brian Daboll were both students at St. Francis High in upstate New York. Cowherd added, “But the Spanos family ultimately chose Brandon Staley, and now Daboll finds himself in a tough spot.” HC Daboll can’t easily get out of the contract the Giants have with their quarterback, Daniel Jones.

NFL analyst further stated that the Giants might need a new quarterback, but they also have many other problems on their team, like the offensive line, wide receivers, tight end, and maybe another cornerback. “This makes it challenging for them to select a quarterback in the first round, as they are committed to Daniel Jones. Brian Daboll is well aware of this.”

Let’s, understand the whole new restructured contract situation of Giants QB Daniel Jones.

Is Daniel Jones to blame?

In 2023, the New York Giants signed Daniel Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract. Furthermore, in September 2023, the Giants restructured Jones’ contract, creating additional salary cap space in the short term. ESPN reports that they converted $8.42 million of Jones’ base salary into a signing bonus, creating nearly $6.32 million in cap space. While the Giants have made a significant financial investment in Jones, it doesn’t necessarily bind them to him as their quarterback for the entire four-year duration.

Daniel Jones’ salary will increase by $2.105 million each year from 2024 to 2026. The Giants have the option to either utilize the $7 million cap space gained in 2023 or save it for future needs. When Jones initially signed the contract, he became one of the top-10 highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. However, the question remains: How does his performance stack up in the regular season report cards through week 4, especially given the Giants’ record of 3 losses and 1 victory?
