On October 17, 2023, the Philadelphia Eagles scored a touchdown in their practice squad. They added a new player Julio Jones, and this one’s a real game-changer. This Wide receiver isn’t new to the NFL dance. He’s been grooving on the field for quite a while now. Jones kicked things off with the Atlanta Falcons, where he was the 6th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Fast forward a decade, and he’s played for the Tennessee Titans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But this seasoned pro holds a record that’s the envy of many – 13,629 career receiving yards, making him the yardage king among active NFL players.

Why is Jones’s name etched in the Falcons’ history?
Back in the Falcons, star Jones left with franchise records for the most catches (848) and receiving yards (12,896). Along with seven Pro Bowls, got first-team All-Pro honors twice, and was a key player in the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

Now, at the age of 34 gearing up for his 13th NFL season, the Eagles have nabbed athletic Jones. The Eagles know they’ve struck gold with this acquisition. Julio Jones has had some historic showdowns against Philly, making 41 catches for 703 yards and scoring five touchdowns in six games.
From the sixth round to the Titans
On June 6, 2021, the Falcons traded Julio Jones and a sixth-round pick to the Titans in exchange for the Titans’ second-round pick in 2022 and their fourth-round pick in 2023. Jones opted to wear jersey number 2 for the Titans as his favorite number, 11, was already allocated to his teammate, receiver A.J. Brown.

During his tenure with the Titans in 2021, Julio Jones played in 10 games, started all 10, and caught 31 passes for a total of 434 yards, averaging 14 yards per catch. He also scored one touchdown with a long reception of 51 yards.
On March 16, 2022, the Titans released Julio Jones, and on July 27, 2022, he signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ups & downs in Buccaneers
In an unseen incident, Jones hurt his knee in Week 1 and couldn’t play much because of a partly torn PCL. This injury kept him out of action for a long time. But he made a big impression by scoring a 31-yard touchdown in the first NFL game ever played in Germany.

During the 2022 NFL season, Julio Jones played in 10 regular games. He caught 24 passes, gained 299 yards, and scored two touchdowns. But when the season ended, his team decided not to keep him for the next season.
Injuries setback for Jones
Indeed! This guy’s a beast on the field. Due to his work ethic: In 2022, seven-time Pro Bowl hauled in 24 catches for 299 yards and two touchdowns with the Bucs. At 34 years old, he’s still got some gas left in the tank.
But, injuries have tried to sideline Julio Jones recently. Over the last three seasons, WR hasn’t played more than 10 games in a single season. But the Eagles are banking on his experience to bring the heat.

No stranger to the college game
WR Jones honed his skills at the University of Alabama from 2008 to 2010, helping the Crimson Tide secure the 2009 BCS national championship. His journey to NFL stardom started here, as he became the first true freshman receiver to start a season opener for the Tide.

And it’s not just Jones, the Eagles have a Crimson Tide connection going strong. Several former Alabama players, including Jalen Hurts, Landon Dickerson, Josh Jobe, Eli Ricks, DeVonta Smith, Tyler Steen, and Julio Jones himself, have found their home in Philadelphia.
