Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson may seem a little cheesy at times, but that’s part of his charm – and it certainly worked wonders for his wife of seven years, Ciara. In fact, Wilson once revealed the exact pickup line he used to win over the ‘Da Girls’ singer and Grammy-winning R&B songwriter, and it’s not what you’d expect.

In a podcast appearance on Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud network on SiriusXM, the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback spoke about laying the groundwork when he was trying to woo Ciara. And Danger Russell’s old wallet was his wingman.

So how does Wilson’s wallet feature in this courting process? Well, the signal-caller, during his single-life Super Bowl-winning high, didn’t pay too much attention to his weathered wallet, as it had taken considerable damage over the years. And the ‘Level Up’ singer took notice.

During the couple’s first meeting, the quarterback and the pop singer had been talking for more than two and a half hours, when the musician noticed where the passer stored his credentials. His aged wallet. “What the hell is that? You’re losing like that,” Ciara had told Russ.

“I put my finger [up] and said, ‘First of all, with me, you’re never losing,” Russell said. “Second of all, that wallet, that shows consistency. That’s what you’re going to get from me. You’re going to get somebody who is consistent for you every day. Inside that wallet, there’s something that’s real in there.”

Since the wallet pickup line, it’s been a smooth ride for Russ and Ciara. The couple eventually tied the knot in 2016 and welcomed two children, Sienna Princess Wilson, and Win Harrison Wilson. Russell is also a loving stepfather and a footballing mentor for Ciara’s oldest son, Future, from her previous relationship with rapper Future.

The couple has been unapologetically themselves ever since, recently rocking the headlines with Ciara’s eyebrow-raising get up during the Vanity Fair Oscar’s after party. The singer anyway doesn’t have time for the trolls after her new song and music video topped the blockbuster charts this month. Russ already made it clear during an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show that he wants to play till 45. And that gives him some time to act on his $245 million contract with the Broncos. Especially with head coach Sean Payton at the helm now. Meanwhile, Ciara and the kids will always be on the quarterback’s mind when he is not holding the pigskin.
