Adding to the stars above the sky, another name from the NFL community was added this past Thursday. Ray Lewis III, the son of Baltimore Ravens legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Ray Lewis, has passed away at the age of 28. Rahsaan Lewis, the late athlete’s younger brother, was among the loved ones who shared the heartbreaking news of his sibling’s death on Thursday in an emotional Instagram post.

Ray Lewis, who played 17 seasons as a linebacker, has earned two Super Bowl titles in his illustrious career. He is a father of six, including Ray Lewis III. The sudden and untimely death of his son at such a young age has deeply affected every member of his family and the entire NFL community, further diminishing another talented footballer from the family.

Tribute from a brother to a brother

Recently, Rahsaan Lewis, a wide receiver for the Kentucky Wildcats, paid tribute to his elder brother with an emotional message on his Instagram story. He wrote, “Really can’t believe I’m this but RIP big brother 🕊️💫A true angel. I pray your at peace now because ik how much you was rlly hurtin I don’t and won’t ever have the words man cuz this pain right here….

He further expressed his love for his brother and mentioned, “your niece gonna miss you but she will hear about u over and over.” Rahsaan assures his brother that he will continue to talk about him and keep his memory alive, saying, “just watch over us all big bruh be our guardian.” He also promises that he will make his brother smile and be proud of his accomplishments. Ray Lewis III, as a member of his family, was a budding star with immense potential, destined to make his entire family proud.

Accomplishments that will be stable now…

Lewis III is survived by his five siblings: Rashaan, Rayshad Lewis, Ralin Lewis, Diaymon Lewis, and Kaitlin Lewis. He initially began his football journey as a running back at Lake Mary Prep in Florida. Upon graduating in 2013, he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Miami Hurricanes at the University of Miami. After two years, Lewis decided to transfer to Coastal Carolina University. Unfortunately, via People Magazine, his football career faced a setback in 2016 when he was dismissed from the team and the university following an indictment by a South Carolina grand jury on a charge of third-degree criminal sexual assault.

However, after a thorough investigation, the charges were ultimately dropped by law enforcement. In 2017, Lewis concluded his college career with the Virginia Union Panthers. He later explored the world of indoor football, playing for the Wyoming Mustangs in 2021. Apart from football, Ray III had aspirations of becoming a rapper, and he showcased his talents by releasing singles and music videos on his social media platforms over the past few years. Ray also displayed exceptional talent as a star running back by rushing for an impressive 1,898 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns on the ground. Additionally, he contributed to the passing game with 676 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
