Baker Mayfield headed from potential unemployment to a seat with last year’s Super Bowl champion’s table. The 2018 overall number-one draft pick has had his share of woes this season. What looked like a potentially dominant NFL career soon became a nightmare of sorts. This season, Mayfield served as the Panthers’ backup quarterback. Not many would’ve seen this downward spiral coming. But, there is still hope for the QB.

The former Heisman Trophy winner was released from Carolina by request. The Rams, who are having a tumultuous season of their own, snatched Mayfield up after his release. Mayfield may be Rams QB Matthew Stafford’s replacement while he is out for the foreseeable future. But could this be his redemption, or is he doomed to go down and the Rams with him?

The Los Angeles Rams look nothing like last season’s version of themselves. The team’s offensive coordinator Liam Coen said that he’s heard great things about Mayfield but hasn’t spoken to the quarterback yet. As a matter of fact, the entire NFL world has always been aware of Mayfield’s potential but hasn’t seen a glimpse of what he can actually do this season. Speaking of what could be a potential make or break for Mayfield, the co-hosts on The Pat McAfee show have thoughts of their own.

While stating that Mayfield should be able to learn any offense at this point, they discussed what he had to offer the Rams. Former NFL punter McAfee asked a crucial question. “For whatever reason,” he said, “It didn’t work out in Cleveland even though he won them a playoff game he goes down to Carolina, I don’t know if anybody’s going to work there, they already fired their coach, they trade their best player on offense who knows what was an opportunity, what wasn’t. Do you view this as a potential comeback party for Baker Mayfield or you think this is going to be s*it?”

Indeed, that is the question weighing on everyone’s mind now. McAfee and co. proceeded to answer the question by stating the obvious. For starters, Mayfield is still young. But, the QB will be entering an incomplete offensive lineup. The Rams are missing their big weapon, Cooper Kupp. The team is currently at 3-9, a far cry from last season’s brilliance. They also sit at the bottom of the NFC West. So essentially, they have nowhere to go but up.
