An article by Jade Scipioni for CNBC Make It states that during times of trouble, Tom Brady always turned to a particular book to help him through it. It is a 1997 self-help book called “The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom.”

The book is based on ancient Mexican teachings from a thousand years ago. It teaches its readers how to find freedom from thoughts that limit our capabilities and hold us back in life. It talks about four powerful codes of conduct. 1) Be flawless with words; 2) Take nothing on a personal level; 3) Never make assumptions and; 4) always give the best of your capabilities.

TB12 discovered this book for the first time in 2006. He said, “It’s kind of a mantra for my life. A very spiritual book. You read it and you just go, Goddamn. You know, how can I be more honest, accept things that don’t go as planned? When you try to combat everything, at the end of the day you realize that you’re responsible for yourself.”
