Following an on-field incident during the game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills, Damar Hamlin is still in the intensive care unit under critical condition. The player was rushed to the hospital on Monday after suffering an unfortunate cardiac arrest resulting from a play.

The whole of the NFL community has voiced their support for the player and his family, who are going through an extremely tough time. Now the President of America, Joe Biden, has joined the list of people who have checked in with the worried parents of Damar.

Joe Biden called the player’s parents while being on his trip from Kentucky to Ohio. The leader of the free world revealed he had spoken with them ‘at length’. The subject of the conversation revolved around the injury suffered by the 24-year-old safety.

The President of America also got asked whether he thought that the NFL was getting too dangerous. “Look, you’ve got guys that are 6’8″, 340 pounds, running a 4.8 40 [yard dash], If you hit somebody with that kind of… now, that’s not what happened here,” Biden replied. “But I just think it’s, I don’t know how you avoid it, I think working like hell on the helmets, the concussion protocols… that all makes a lot of sense. But it’s, you know, it is dangerous. You gotta just acknowledge it.”

This year has been a big turning point for the league. Prior to this shockwave, the NFL came under criticism for its weak execution over the concussion protocol. Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa also scared the fans with his horrific injury, which also came against the Bengals in Week 4. Coupled with a few more head-turning injuries on the field, fans have started to ask questions about the league.

 Aaron Rodgers takes shot at NFL’s player safety policy

In November, back-to-back MVP Aaron Rodgers also called out the league’s stand over the grass vs turf debate. “As much as I’ve enjoyed playing indoors over the years on turf, I do think it’s time to play on grass. I think you’d see less of these non-contact injuries,” said the Green Bay Packers QB.

The 39-year-old told the league to finally do what it preaches. “This would be putting money where your mouth is if the league is really interested in player safety,” added Rodgers.
