When a quarterback who has spent his entire career in a different system comes to a new team, the expectations should be lowered at the beginning. It takes time to settle in and learn the new playbook. However, in the case of Russell Wilson, no one foresaw the troubles. The former Super Bowl champion has had a pitiful start to the season. And according to Stephen A Smith, Russ is currently the most disappointing player in the NFL.

Stephen A Smith is one of the most popular figures among American sports journalists. The 55 years old does not shy away from giving the players a hard talk from time to time. This time, his focus is on the 2014 Super Bowl-winning quarterback. With Wilson’s recent performances in the league, Broncos’ offense is currently in a dire condition. Smith, in a segment dedicated to Russ on First Take, called the player ‘The most disappointing player’ in the league this year.
After a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers this past week, Smith did not hide his disappointment with the star quarterback. “I’ve always been a fan of Russell Wilson, not this year. He’s looked bad. They’ve got the worst offense in the National Football League in terms of points scored,” Smith said. “He has only completed 58% of his passes. He looks like a shell of himself.” Further highlighting the massive pay hike the QB received this season, he said, “You got $165 million guaranteed.”

Russell Wilson: Is he the guy for the Broncos?
The Denver Broncos put all their eggs in a single basket when they traded for Wilson this off-season. Further offering a 5-year $245 million deal to the player with $165 million guaranteed. However, whatever they were expecting to see out of Wilson has not happened yet, having lost 3 back-to-back games now. And 4 in total out of their 6 games played. Denver seems worse off. Even though their defense is among top 5 in the league, the offense has failed miserably. Scoring just 15.2 points per game, frustrations have only grown since last season.
In 6 games, Wilson has only thrown 5 touchdowns and 1442 yards, adding 3 interceptions into the equation. The QB has really struggled to show anything of an optimistic value to the fans. While the offense still has weapons like Sutton and Jerry Judy, their struggles to score points have taken the center stage. One can only hope that the team starts to turn things around quickly, as the contract won’t be easy to trade around in this league.
