Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admitted making the “don’t f*ck with me” comment to Patriots owner Robert Kraft in the team owner meeting. The 80-year-old Jones confirmed he used those strong words in Manhattan during his appearance on 105.3 The Fan. Jones was partially apologetic about the remarks he made to the NFL veteran owner.

The experienced campaigner also admitted the comments were not made in good taste. However, he pointed out that people generally express themselves with those they know. He also revealed his take on the matter. “You express yourself with people you know and people you’re around a lot… in different ways. I would say that in this particular case, it’s probably accurate that I did express myself in probably a way that’s not in good taste,” he said.

Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft share success stories

The duo has a unique record. They are two of the most experienced owners in the NFL. Both of them have decades of experience in the league and have seen the growth of several top stars, including Tom Brady in their career. Both are keen on winning the Super Bowl this season. Jerry Jones purchased the Cowboys in 1989 while Kraft bought the Patriots in 1994.

The duo shared a heated exchange during the recently concluded NFL owners’ meeting. The issue was with granting permission for a new contract with commissioner Roger Goodell. Their talk ended on a bitter note.

Why did Jones say these words?

The Dallas Cowboys owner later said he was not aware his remarks would be heard outside the meeting room. Jones added he expected exclusivity and protection, which would have helped him to express his honest feelings. He is not new to controversies and often endorses them with both hands.

Meanwhile, he added, it is not surprising that it leaked out after the meeting. However, both owners have some key responsibilities. The Cowboys and Patriots are two of the favorites to reach the playoffs. It would be interesting how the team owners would react to each other if a meeting arises.
