Tom Brady has put the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a huge dilemma as this off-season gets underway. The seven-time Super Bowl announced his second and final retirement after 23 years at the top of the NFL. However, the void he left needs to be filled and fans don’t like some of the available options.
One option is Sin City’s now former quarterback Derek Carr, who cut his 9-year ties with the Raiders. But questions surround ring-less Carr’s ability to replace the widely considered GOAT and quarterback of the Super Bowl LV Champion franchise.

Is Carr the right successor to Tom Brady?
Tom Brady didn’t have the greatest last season and the fairy tale ending he yearned for. However, he was still better than most of the quarterbacks in the league. Ranking third overall among QBs in passing yards and setting an NFL record in completion percentage, TB12 was certainly ahead of Derek Carr. And fans don’t want to downgrade.
Derek Carr had only 3522 passing yards in the 15 games he started this season for the Las Vegas Raiders. This was definitely a step down after four consecutive 4000+ passing yards seasons. And the 9-year veteran got benched for the last two games this regular season.
Derek’s mobility in the pocket would definitely help the Bucs after a static 45-year-old Brady put the pressure tremendously on the Tampa Bay offensive line. However, coming off an unsuccessful season will probably play on Carr’s mental makeup and fans were not ready to pounce on the QB.
Derek Carr: A strict no for Tampa fans
Founder of the Draft Network, JC Cornell, tweeted a dancing Carr and baited Buccaneers fans with the caption: “The guy that will replace Tom Brady.” And fans were not kind to the all-time passing yards leader for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Other options for Brady’s replacement include the untested Kyle Trask. And some fans think that Derek Carr will be a better choice with his leadership skills. A lacklustre QB class awaits the Bucs in the 2023 NFL draft and this only worsens the problem for Todd Bowles’ team.

Besides, Tom Brady’s replacement isn’t the only thing on the head coach’s mind. He also has to find a new offensive coordinator after the Bucs parted ways with Byron Leftwich following an 8-10 losing season.
