The life of Colin Kaepernick as a QB feels like a distant past. The ex-San Francisco 49ers star has not played in the NFL since 2016. And ever since, he’s been devoting his time as a social rights activist for the discriminated community in the country. Recently, he made headlines after engaging with current NFL RBs and WRs at the Nike Facility. This led to people believing that the 35-year-old might be making a comeback in the upcoming season of the NFL. Such hopes were short-lived after recent reports suggested that the doors for a comeback might be closed for the former QB this year.

Recently, Kaepernick also launched his graphic novel, which gives his fans a peek into his childhood and teenage years before playing in the NFL. And in this novel, he talked about a time when he was left feeling regretful because of a thought-provoking letter written by his adoptive father during his teen years.

The events show that his father missed the end moments of the game because he had to attend a business call. This led to Kaepernick being visibly disappointed with his father, as his mother tries to console him by reasoning the situation. After Kaepernick reaches home, he finds that his father left a note on the table. The note read, “When you’re trying to correct a problem, you should start by looking in the mirror.” This thought-provoking note left the young Kaepernick speechless, as he began to feel that maybe his father was right about what he wrote.

Kaepernick faced criticism for calling out his adoptive parents

During an interview with Adriana Diaz of CBS, the ex- 49ers QB talked about his adoptive parents perpetuating racism in their household. He said that despite the fact that his parents loved him, there were “still very problematic things” that he went through during his childhood. One particular instance that Kaepernick called out was when his family referred to him as a “thug” because of his hairstyle. This led to the 35-year-old receiving widespread criticism for calling out his adoptive parents. Even former MMA fight and army veteran Tim Kennedy was rubbed in the wrong way by Kap’s comments. He took to social media to talk about how his own father called him an “idiot” for bleaching his hair. Kennedy then went on to state sarcastically that maybe even his parents were “perpetuating racism” and “didn’t want the best” for him.
