Who would have thought that the former Heisman winner and the first overall draft pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, Baker Mayfield would be an undesired player for the Cleveland Browns? The Browns too, wouldn’t have thought the same since Mayfield was believed to be the next big thing in the NFL.

During his four seasons with the Browns, Mayfield has only registered one winning record during a season. His inconsistency to carry the Browns through to the playoffs has forced the franchise to bet on another star quarterback. Deshaun Watson, though amid controversy was the hottest take during the 2022 Free Agency.

The Browns ended up joining forces with the star quarterback, however, that trade made one person very uncomfortable. Baker Mayfield, who was the QB1 of the franchise until the 2021 season, now remains the loudest backup in the league. The Browns have not yet initiated talks to trade Mayfield. Could he remain a backup for Watson during the 2022 season? If so, would it not be awkward for him? NFL legend turned analyst Shannon Sharpe thinks so.

The Deshaun Watson trade has put Baker Mayfield in an uncomfortable situation with Cleveland Browns

During his show ‘Undisputed’ with Skip Bayless, Sharpe explained how uncomfortable the situation has now become. “That’s gonna be a very very uncomfortable situation because Baker’s gonna be walking around locker room like man y’all stood up more for Odell who ain’t even here that y’all did for me,” Shannon Sharpe said.

The Cleveland Browns locker room was evidently divided into two when the franchise cut ties with Odell Beckham Jr. the previous season. However, no one has yet stepped forward in support of Mayfield.

The Browns have clearly exploited their cap space with two celebrity quarterbacks, but they might part ways with Mayfield pretty soon to accommodate essential prospects. ‘Undisputed’ co-host Skip Bayless then revealed that Mayfield would be a perfect fit for the QB-deprived Pittsburgh Steelers.

Although should Mayfield move on with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he will meet the Browns two times in the regular season. That could be a sight to watch but will that trade happen?
