After Quitting Football and Crushed NFL Hopes, Dwayne Johnson Was Told by His Legendary Wrestler Father That He Was ‘Ruining His Career’ by Opting to Join ‘Family Business’

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a highly successful wrestler, actor, and business owner. The Rock is one of the most versatile wrestlers to join the WWE universe. He was born into the wrestling dynasty. Johnson is the son of the Black Georgia Heavyweight Champion, Rocky Johnson. That is where he gets his mastery over wrestling. However, before becoming the ten-time world champion, he played professional football. Although he is a magnificent star and a household name now, his father never believed that a successful career in wrestling was something for Rocky.

Surely fans can’t imagine The Great One not tackling his opponents in the ring. The Rock managed to make the most flourishing career for himself in the WWE. But when Dwayne Johnson was young, he played college football.

Even though his career was a short-lived one, it was impressive. The two-time Intercontinental Champion attended the University of Miami and played for the Miami Hurricanes. Later, he signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.

In a sentimental video, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson talked about a difficult time in his life. The time when a person experiences career struggles put everything into perspective. Johnson expressed that having faith in oneself while going through a rough time is crucial. Because “on the other side of your pain is something good.”

After the depressive episode, The Rock got a call from the Stampeders coach. The team had cut him off. However, they wanted him to come back to the roster. But little did they know the future 2000 Royal rumble winner had other plans.

After the call, Rocky asked her son if he was ready to join the Stampeders. “I think I’m done with that. And he goes, ‘what?’ I said, my gut tells me I’m done.’ He said, ‘what are you gonna do?’ I took a deep breath. I said, ‘I’d like to get into the business.’ He said, ‘what business?’ I said, ‘the wrestling business.’ He said, ‘you are throwing it all away. It is the worst mistake you will ever make.’ He said, ‘you’re ruining your career.’ So maybe I’ll be no good.'” 

But nobody could stop The Rock to become one of the best wrestlers. His father helped to train him.
