Marshawn Lynch transformed into a household name during his time with the league. But, despite a 12-year playing career filled with accomplishments, there was one thing the RB disliked passionately.
As high-profile athletes, attention from the media is a given, especially for someone as well-regarded as Lynch. But the former Seahawks star never gravitated toward the media. While his personal preference is understandable, the RB had to reap the consequences of his actions. Here’s a look at the repercussions that followed Lynch’s hesitance with media availability.

Marshawn Lynch’s relationship with the media is interesting, to say the least. In his 2015 chat with the press where response to every question that was thrown at him was a poker-faced, “I’m here so I don’t get fined,” said everything that needs to be said.
While it was fun for fans to watch the RB play the most evasive game with the press, the league was unimpressed. According to Lynch, players were required to make themselves available once a week for media appearances. Failing to do so a number of times resulted in the accumulation of a hefty fine.
Featured on Brandon Marshall’s podcast ‘I AM ATHLETE,’ Lynch described the total figure he amassed in fines. He said, “So the fines started accumulating, and they were from seasons before. It got to a pretty penny, though.” He added, “$1.2 million.” Not a small sum by any means- the total figure should give fans a pretty clear picture of the league’s stance on players making press appearances. Stunned by his admission, fans commented on the sheer volume of the fine that was levied.
Fans were stunned by Lynch’s admission
NFL insider Dov Kleiman took to Twitter to share a snippet of Lynch’s appearance on the podcast.

$1.2 million is a staggering amount. Lynch’s antics with the press put a large dent in his pocket. But, ‘beast mode’s’ multimillionaire status may have put him in a position to be able to pay his dues without breaking the bank.
