Baker Mayfield returned to action after a long spell on the bench. With PJ Walker out injured, Baker got the nod for QB 1 as the Panthers took on Lamar Jackson’s Ravens. One would expect the former Browns’ QB to have taken this opportunity with arms wide open. However, Baker failed to make the most of the stage as he had a poor showing in their loss yet again.

In what could have been his moment of the year, Mayfield may have just blown it.

Baker Mayfield not “The guy”

Baker Mayfield was in his first start since game Week 5, where the Panthers lost to the 49ers. After proving his excellence over Sam Darnold in training, he got the nod for the injured Walker. Darnold was deemed the QB’s deputy for the contest. On their trip to Baltimore, however, Mayfield didn’t show up. In a low-scoring contest that remained at 3 a piece till the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Ravens took the game home in the final fourth of the game as they won 13-3.

3 words sum up his time with the Panthers

When asked about his performance, the QB said “Not good enough” as he continues struggling with a season that has been full of criticism. “I’ll be honest with you, I put my heart and soul in this, and this sucks. I just hope everybody else feels the same way, to be honest with you. That’s how you turn things around. You have to care about it. You do,” said the dejected Number 1 draft pick of 2018. As he looks to regain his form and confidence, Baker might have to just sit out for the remainder of the season.

The Panthers go deep with their quarterbacks as former Jets‘ first-round pick Sam Darnold fills a spot on the roster too. The quarterback duo was among the top 3 picks of the 2018 draft. They are now struggling to even see the field. It just goes on to show how rapidly the game progresses and how doing the right things can pave the way to a successful career.
