If the Bucs do so, they have the option to rob in Baker Mayfield. However, the Cleveland Browns must decide whether to invest in the QB this offseason. As he prepares for his sixth season in the NFL, the former first-round choice is doing so without a long-term deal. He might have a collective bargaining agreement year in 2022.

Recent rumors have floated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a destination for Cleveland Browns’ QB Baker Mayfield. General manager Jason Licht didn’t shoot down the idea of his team adding the former No.1 overall pick.

He mentions, “I don’t want to talk about a player that’s on another team’s roster right now, but we may still add a veteran quarterback. We’re going to have to see how it goes here.”

After leading the Browns to the playoffs in 2020, Mayfield, 26, stepped away last season, partly in response to injury. In January, he had a surgical procedure on his non-throwing arm to heal a torn ligament.

Kyle Trask, a second-year quarterback, is presently serving as Brady’s backup, replacing Blaine Gabbert. However, the club may be willing to see whether Mayfield, who is owed $19 million in the last year of his rookie deal, forces the Browns into a position. It seems the Buccaneers have already been evaluating Mayfield if perhaps Cleveland may decide to trade him.

Mayfield’s deal might cause the Browns to perhaps add a draft choice or absorb some chunk of his money. If this is the scenario, it’ll be an intriguing prospect for the Buccaneers. They can also start grooming Mayfield as Brady’s long-term successor. The Browns already have added Jacoby Brissett to serve as Deshaun Watson’s backup, and Mayfield seems to have no reason to stay in the lineup.
