Aaron Rodgers has worn the number 12 jersey for the majority of his career. But he might not be able to wear it with the Jets. The legendary Joe Namath wore that number for the Jets and the franchise retired it in their icon’s honor.

Namath himself has no problem with the four-time NFL MVP taking the iconic Jets 12. He said it was on the ownership to decide. As for his own view, he’ll allow it.

“Yeah, I want him to wear his number. We established ourselves and we’ve got a real respect for our numbers, and Aaron Rodgers, God almighty, yeah! It’d be great to have him in New York,” Namath said on ‘Tikki & Tierney’ show.

Rodgers acknowledged the offer on the ‘Pat McAfee Show’ but hasn’t taken it up yet. According to him, it is a matter to discuss down the road.

Number 8 for A-Rod

Aaron Rodgers hasn’t always worn the iconic 12. He wore it when he arrived at Green Bay as a first-round pick in the 2005 draft. The QB wore number 8 during his college career. He played for Butte Community College and the California Golden Bears. During his time in California, he wore the number eight. So NFL insider Mike Florio thinks that he should wear the same number as it is available in New York.

“The number is the thing that helps dehumanize the player. Aaron Rodgers isn’t 12. He’s Aaron Rodgers,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.
