Life has been quite unfair to Zach Wilson, who rose to prominence as the second overall pick in last year’s NFL draft class. Recently, the youngster was benched for the second time this season during the Jets’ clash against the Jaguars in Week 16. Although his future still looks bright, Wikipedia seems to have made its case and almost ended Wilson’s career in New York.
During the third quarter of the game, head coach Robert Saleh made a move that nobody could have imagined at that point. Fourth-string quarterback Chris Streveler replaced Wilson and took charge of the offensive unit. Before this move, Zach Wilson got tremendously booed by his own fans at the MetLife stadium, who showcased a terrible performance filled with extreme inaccuracies.
"I just felt like I didn't have any rhythm out there. I was just trying to find some confidence out there on the field and I was trying to find something to get us going, a little spark, but I didn't get anything there man"

And guess what? Strevelar shined in his debut, instantly moving the ball and bagging the first down. Wilson couldn’t help himself but watch from the sidelines. However, this swap didn’t help anyways because the Jets failed terribly, losing the game 19-3 against the Trevor Lawrence-led side. Hence it eventually became an added embarrassment going down 7-8 in the AFC East.

Meanwhile, the highlight of the night was Wikipedia making a major update on Zach Wilson’s page. The platform explicitly mentioned the end of Wilson’s career inside the Jets locker room. Well, this change of statements took no time to spread like a wildfire, and fans couldn’t believe how it all turned out in a short span.
Robert Saleh breaks silence on replacing Zach Wilson
After the game, head coach Robert Saleh spoke about the reason behind keeping Wilson on the sidelines and giving a fourth-string quarterback to continue the game.
“We were trying to change it up to get the run game going,” said Saleh to the reporters. “Obviously I know Zach was struggling. Streveler came in, he ran a couple of plays, sparked the offense, and got the explosive plays. It just snowballed for us, in a good way,” he added, backing Wilson for more opportunities in the future.

He affirmed to keep Wilson intact and find ways to protect him better. The sloppy start always happened to be a primary reason behind such losses, something that Saleh acknowledged moving forward. In Week 16, Wilson threw for 92 yards completing nine passes out of 18 attempts. Getting sacked thrice with an interception and fans booing at him were some of the unforgettable moments from the game.
