As per the conduct of the game, injuries are always going to be a part of the sport. However, players have recognized another element that has been big on player injuries and hasn’t been addressed. The playing surface of a lot of NFL stadiums is causing concerns for players. Patrick Mahomes is the latest candidate to join other NFL players in making their statements on the situation.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback also made his mark in this space as players scrutinize playing surfaces across the league.

Patrick Mahomes wants safer fields

 In a recent statement by the NFL players’ Association (NFLPA) players’ health and safety were addressed as a priority. The column demands an immediate banning of film slit turf as it calls for its replacement from existing stadiums. They even noted that seven teams across the league currently have this turf as their primary playing surface. They also stated that the NFL has acknowledged it as less safe but still not made it their primary concern to change anything about it in the near future.

As more players pick non-contact injuries over the season, players have voiced their opinions. With an aim to get the conversation around it going, players have started using the hashtag #saferfields.

Earlier last week, De’Vondre Campbell called out the league for their grounds after eight of his teammates got injured during their outing with the Lions. He even went on to call it like playing on concrete. Similarly, LA Rams’ wide receiver Cooper Kupp took the time to make himself heard.

49ers’ tight end George Kittle also joined the party. Patrick Mahomes also used his space to call out the NFL by retweeting these tweets.

The league needs to do more

The NFL and the franchises make millions off the players year after year. Keeping their safety in mind, players urge team owners and the league to use the revenue to improvise playing conditions. As they continue to use technology to advance the equipment for the game, it’s equally important for them to utilize data and technology at hand to ensure the best playing surfaces for athletes.

The NFL season has just arrived at its midpoint. Teams will look to either continue on their good run or improvise on poor form. Injuries have already ruled out players for the rest of the season. Players will hope they aren’t victims of more surface-related injuries as these things can make or break a team’s season.
